MoBeam Barcode Redemption Solution
Ecrio's MoBeam technology uses a light source on a small keychain-based device (called the ClipPod™) or mobile phone to originate the long-and-short sequencing of a standard barcode. A standard laser scanner - like those in use in over 35 million brick-and-mortar retail locations in the US - interprets those light beams exactly as it would the reflection of a printed barcode.
Possible uses include:
- Coupons - Clipping coupons from newspaper and circulars would become a thing of the past; MoBeam users could request offers from a manufacturer's or retailer's web site or even via email. At the retail location, the user would use MoBeam to apply the discount at checkout.
- Ticketing - Users purchasing a movie ticket online (for example) can receive a barcode on their phone rather than printing a physical copy. The user would then use MoBeam to "beam" the information on demand to a laser scanner at the theater's entrance.
- Customer loyalty and incentive programs - Rather than carrying a stack of bulky plastic cards, customers can "beam" their account information through the laser scanners at the checkstand.
- Contests and promotions - Retailers looking to increase traffic in their locations can distribute barcodes redeemable for special prizes when shoppers visit their stores.
Ecrio is working with retailers, consumer packaged goods providers, media companies, and traditional coupon ecosystem partners to bring the MoBeam technology and ClipPod device to market.
