Ecrio Inc. Upgrades its IMPS Handset and Server Product Suite Following Successful Completion of OMA IMPS Interoperability Fest
Ecrio Solidifies Leadership in Commercial Availability of IMPS Handset and Server Software
Cupertino, California - April 14th, 2003 — Ecrio Inc., a provider of instant communications application and infrastructure software solutions, announced today that it has successfully completed interoperability tests of its handset and server software according to the Open Mobile Alliance Instant Messaging and Presence Services (OMA IMPS) version 1.1 specifications - also known as Wireless Villageâ„¢. This achievement occurred at the last OMA IMPS interoperability event, recently held in Montreal, Canada.
The upgrade of Ecrio's IMPS suite of products includes a software development kit with a complete client toolkit library, IMPS protocol stack, and a platform specific layer supporting various handset platforms and technologies such as Java (J2ME™), Symbian™, PocketPC®, and embedded C clients on native OS. HTTP, WAP Push, and SMS bindings are now fully supported on handsets and server giving full flexibility for IMPS solution deployments. In addition to adhering to OMA IMPS specifications (Wireless Village), Ecrio's server platform also supports the IETF SIP/SIMPLE protocol, and enables interoperability between the two.
"Our ability to support interoperability across a diverse set of handset platforms and our server products, bring about the maturity and commercial viability of our solution for handset makers and mobile operators alike," said Nagesh Challa, President & CEO of Ecrio. "We are very proud of enabling our handset partners to ship commercial IMPS phones with our software this calendar year on the GSM/GPRS and CDMA markets worldwide."
Ecrio's IMPS products enable a host of value-added services that combine community building, presence and availability, and AllMediaâ„¢ content delivery - text, handwritten notes, images, drawings, digital photos, voice, video, and documents - across mobile phones, PDAs, as well as personal computers and Internet browsers.
