Ecrio Inc. Announces Interoperability Support for SIP/SIMPLE Protocol and Wireless Village™ specifications in its Presence Server
Cupertino, California - January 21st, 2003 — Ecrio Inc. a leader in Instant Messaging and Presence Services (IMPS) handset software and communication servers, announced today the release of the Ecrio Presence Server, and its adherence to industry standards including the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) for Instant Messaging and Presence Leveraging Extensions (SIMPLE) and the specifications of the Open Mobile Alliance's (OMA) Wireless Village™ version 1.1. This interoperability is enhanced by the Ecrio Presence Server features that securely connect users and applications across firewalls and Network Address Translation (NATs) for remote access of private networks.
This development enhances the mobilization of the work force for most corporations by enabling presence-based voice and data communication across fixed and mobile networks inside and outside the enterprise. Furthermore, it allows mobile operators to extend their offering beyond consumer services and increase revenues from corporate customers. "We are very pleased to play an important role in bringing these specifications to maturity and enable open interoperability in our product line" said Nagesh Challa, President & CEO of Ecrio Inc. "Our active participation in industry forums and our investment in building best-of-class communication platforms has paid off in our ability to be the first to bring such standards-based shipping products to the IMPS market."
Presence information consists of a subscriber's profile, location, availability, handset, and network status. Its use in person-to-person and group communication significantly increases efficiency and convenience for leisure and business purposes. The Ecrio Presence Server aggregates information from presence supplier "agents" across enterprise and mobile operator networks and disseminates it to voice and data services. The Ecrio Presence Server runs on popular network hardware and operating systems, and is compliant to numerous open standards and specifications &ndsh;SOAP/XML, SIP/SIMPLE, OMA IMPS (Wireless Village™), as well as the PAM Forum APIs.
