Ecrio Inc. Launches Short VoiceMessage Service for Enterprise & Mobile Operator Data Networks

Cupertino, California - December 18th, 2002 — Ecrio Inc. launched today the Ecrio Short VoiceMessage Service™ (“SVS™”), an SMS-like service for voice on GPRS, CDMA 1X, and Wi-Fi (802.11) networks that allows users to exchange short voice messages. Available on existing mobile phones, smartphones, personal digital assistants, and PCs, it works with the same simplicity of SMS, requiring no networking and signaling infrastructure changes by enterprises and mobile operators.

Ecrio SVS benefits enterprises by improving productivity and reducing communication costs, and enables mobile operators to generate new revenues over data networks such as GPRS, CDMA 1X, and Wi-Fi HotSpots.

Ecrio SVS™ is a low overhead voice messaging service supporting Voice over Wireless IP (VoWIP) using the Open Mobile Alliance Instant Messaging and Presence Services (OMA IMPS) specifications (previously known as Wireless Village ™). Users, with a simple click of a button on their mobile handset, (e.g. Symbian™, PocketPC®, SmartPhone2002) record and send their voice messages across networks worldwide. Ecrio SVS is targeted at professional subscribers for whom keying in text messages with SMS has been a barrier to usage.

“We are witnessing strong interest in deploying SVS by operators and enterprises worldwide” said Nagesh Challa, President and CEO of Ecrio Inc. “We see Ecrio SVS as a killer application made possible by the integration of voice and data.”
