Ecrio Inc. and Octave Communications Sign Alliance to Enable Mobile Instant Voice Conferencing

Agreement seamlessly integrates instant messaging and presence services with instant group conversation communication

Cupertino, California - October 21, 2002 — Ecrio Inc., a leading provider of instant communication application and infrastructure software, and Octave Communications, a leading provider of audio conferencing systems and instant group conversation technology, today announced they have signed an alliance that will enable on-demand instant voice conferencing for mobile users. Conference calls can be initiated from any mobile phone, PDA, or desktop via an easy-to-use interface that allows selecting multiple participants all at once.

The Ecrio Rich Instant Messaging Platform enables presence, availability, and location detection across all devices and platforms. It handles the delivery of AllMedia™ - handwritten notes, images, drawings, digital photos, images, voice, and documents- across fixed and wireless networks in addition to the support of instant messaging and presence services. Now, users can initiate voice conference calls using any mobile phone (SMS, EMS, MMS, WAP, and J2ME), PDAs (Palm OS and PocketPC), as well as personal computers and Internet browsers.

Octave’s instant group conversation system enables mobile users to effortlessly start and attend their instant conferences from any mobile device using simple speech, Web browsers or SS7 signaling. Mobile users can also schedule conferences ahead of time, and notify participants via IM or SMS. Additionally, the system utilizes network presence technology so a mobile user instantly knows the online presence/availability of an individual or group member being contacted.
