Ecrio Inc. and Octave Communications Sign Alliance to Enable Mobile Instant Voice Conferencing

Agreement seamlessly integrates instant messaging and presence services with instant group conversation communication

Cupertino, California - October 21, 2002 — Ecrio Inc. and 3dMe, Inc., today announced their cooperation to deliver presence-enabled 3-D animated picture messaging solutions to mobile operators. The solution integrates Ecrio’s instant messaging and presence services (IMPS) infrastructure with 3dMe’s advanced 3-D character animation platform. Users of this value added service, create and share personalized animations, including images, text, and sounds, between users on mobile and fixed line networks. The 3-D messages consisting of Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language (SMIL) presentations and video clips (e.g. WMV, MPEG), are delivered to mobile phones (MMS, J2ME™, WAP), personal digital assistants, personal computer, or internet browser over Internet and mobile 2G, 2.5G, and 3G networks. The combined solutions are being demonstrated in the Logica Mobile Networks booth, #2218, at CTIA Wireless I.T. & Internet 2002, October 16~19th, Las Vegas, NV.

Ecrio and 3dMe are bringing together the key building blocks for successful mobile value added services: AllMedia™ messaging infrastructure, IMPS, and content generation services. Ecrio’s AllMedia™ messaging solutions combine presence and AllMedia™ messaging delivery. Presence enabled applications allow users to know when their friends are on and offline, what their mood is, their availability status, and location. The 3dMe character animation client/server platform enables the personalization of multimedia content; users select a character, and script their greetings and emotions, e.g. smile, frown, wink, and yawn.

“The collaboration between innovators like Ecrio and 3dMe displays the maturity and capabilities of our respective technologies” said Nagesh Challa, President & CEO of Ecrio Inc. “Thanks to solid engineering, open standards adoption, our companies are able to deploy compelling revenue-generating solutions for wireless carriers today.”

“We are excited to bring the new dimensions of presence, immediacy, and community to our 3d character based person-to-person messaging solution,” said Vincent Turco, VP Sales and Business Development of 3dMe. “Ecrio’s AllMedia messaging solutions in conjunction with our content and application platform create a differentiated revenue generating end-to-end messaging solution.”
