Ecrio Inc. Announces Availability of Embedded J2ME and C Client Instant Messaging Software for Mobile Phones

Cupertino, California - June 17, 2002 — Ecrio Inc., a provider of advanced messaging infrastructure software, today announced the availability of its embedded client software for Instant Messaging and Presence Services (IMPS) on mobile handsets. The IMPS software comes in two versions, C on native OS for processors such as the ARM7™, and Java™ 2 Micro Edition (J2ME™). Handset manufacturers can optimize the IMPS client according to the resident OS, devices' memory, general peripherals, and user interface and language. Mobile device manufacturers and wireless operators can dramatically reduce development time by embedding and shipping the software with their handset offerings, or provision it over the air in the case of J2ME downloads.

The underlying protocol of the Ecrio embedded client offering is standards-based, ensuring the software's longevity and ability to interoperate with other service offerings. "We've always had a strong commitment toward industry standards such as 3GPP™, IETF, Presence and Availability Management (PAM) Forum, and the Wireless Village™ initiative," said Nagesh Challa, President & CEO of Ecrio. "By standing behind this commitment to standards, future derivatives of our core embedded software will enable the rapid deployment of new value-added services, such as enhanced multimedia messaging, gaming, m-commerce, and chat services."

Ecrio embedded J2ME and C client software seamlessly interacts with the Ecrio™ Rich Instant Messaging Platform, a client/server instant messaging solution enabling the exchange of AllMedia™ -text, handwritten notes, images, audio, video, voice, and document files-between phones, smartphones, PDAs, personal computers, and Internet browsers. With the Ecrio Rich Instant Messaging Platform, wireless operators and enterprises can immediately deploy simple text-based wireless instant messaging or complete multimedia messaging service offerings, over 2G, 2.5G, and next-generation 3G networks.
