Vision

Ecrio Inc. is driven by a simple vision: Consumers and business users deserve access to a broad range of communications and commerce services from their mobile devices — services like those they love on their networked PCs. With the global roll-out of faster (3G etc.) mobile networks, there’s simply no excuse for limiting users’ access to friends, family, business, interests and social networks.

To that end, Ecrio delivers mobile voice applications such as Push-to-Talk (PoC) and Voice over IP (VoIP); mobile video applications, such as VideoShare; mobile messaging applications, including Instant Messaging and Presence Services (IMPS); and more. The foundation for these applications is Ecrio’s standards-based IMS framework, which ensures worldwide interoperability and an upgrade path to future technologies and ‘plug-in’ applications.

In the world of mobile commerce, Ecrio focuses on the portability of digital redemption and payments — cutting the user’s tether to a fixed PC, laptop and printer. One example is MoBeam™.  MoBeam takes virtually any barcoded data — tickets, coupons, loyalty and gift cards — and transmits that barcoded sequence into standard point-of-sale laser scanners. Finally — mobile consumers can “close the loop,” liberated from home printing and paper copies.

Ecrio also advances the future of mobile payments via its Near Field Communications (NFC) expertise. NFC is based on a standard short-range wireless chipset, integrated into the latest mobile phones. That chipset, along with applications from Ecrio and others, provides access to a network of payment and communication services. By aligning with NFC standards and providing access to Ecrio’s popular NFC foundation, Ecrio makes it easy for third parties to quickly offer their own applications and expertise.

Founded in 1998 and headquartered in Silicon Valley, Ecrio Inc. is the leader in advanced communications and commerce solutions for mobile phones. Ecrio provides wireless carriers, handset makers and application providers a family of rich communication services, including PoC, VoIP, VideoShare, IMPS, and an array of mobile commerce solutions.  

Ecrio is a strong supporter of open standards including 3GPP, OMA, NFC Forum, IETF, and W3C. Ecrio's standards-compliant presence and availability technology enables end-to-end solutions for mobile operators such as:

The private company is backed by an elite group of investors, most recently adding Aplix, NTT DoCoMo and Visa. The three founders all remain with the company today, and are actively engaged in rolling out Ecrio’s communications and commerce solutions worldwide.
